This year’s Reach for Ralph: A Vintage Evening of Culture, Cars and Cocktails highlighted the “carpe diem” attitude of the 60s, as it focused on the importance of providing adults and children with developmental disabilities the opportunity to live life to the fullest. Hosted by BMW of Minnetonka, the event raised more than $96,000 for Hammer Residences, Inc.

My first personal connection to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital—located in Memphis—came last year when talking to our 2010 Volunteer Hall of Fame honoree Berit Francis. Her daughter was treated at the hospital and she had nothing but wonderful things to say about the magnificent place that treated and cured her daughter.

On Friday, Brit’s Pub hosted a royal wedding viewing party that kicked off at 4 a.m. Guests flocked to the pub in fascinators—we saw lots of dressy hats with lace, flowers, and feathers—to take in the live TV coverage of the royal nuptials, dine on an English-style breakfast buffet, and gobble down wedding cake.

Ian and Margery of myTalk 107.1 did a live broadcast from the party and chatted up our own "royal couple"—winners of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine’s Will and Kate Look-A-Like Contest—along with TCL’s Elizabeth Ries. Meanwhile, Brit’s sister restaurant, Vincent A Restaurant, was also open early with the theme “Keep Calm, It’s Only a Wedding.”

While this party wasn’t Valentine’s-themed, love was definitely in the air for CCRF’s annual Date for Life event. Just in time to find that special someone for Valentine’s Day, this event allowed local singles to bid on hot and successful bachelors and bachelorettes. And it was all for a good cause: to help raise funds for children’s cancer research at the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center.
