What: Angels & Divas
Where: The Saint Paul Hotel
When: October 5, 2011
Why: To support the Angel Foundation, an organization that provides education and financial assistance to adults who have cancer.

Angels & Divas is my kind of event. First, I’m never one to turn down a fashion show. Second, the event supports the Angel Foundation, which helps adults with cancer and their families. This hit close to home, because several of my family members—including my dad, aunt, and grandpa—were diagnosed with cancer. The event’s theme was “making a difference with style,” and that is something I can get behind.

WINGs Flight of Fashion

Who: Trendsetters, fashion lovers, and women supporting women
What: United Way of Twin Cities’ WINGs Flight of Fashion
Where: Mall of America’s Great Room in Nickelodeon Universe
When: March 24, 2011
Why: To get a sneak peek at spring trends and raise awareness for United Way’s WINGs program.

I have to admit, I’m not much of a fashionista. I live to wear black, rarely wear patterns, and secretly worry that everything I put on clashes with my red hair. So when the opportunity to go to a fashion show came up, I knew I had to attend. Not only are they fun (despite my non-fashionistaness), they’re also inspiring. I always leave wanting to mix up my closet. But this fashion show was inspiring for a different reason. As a fundraiser for United Way’s WINGs (Women Investing in the Next Generation) program, this show allowed guests to learn about WINGs and hear about how the program has helped women in our community.

Nordstrom Fall 2010 Designer Preview

Who: Fashionistas and friends of the Starkey Hearing Foundation
What: Preview of Fall 2010 American and European designer collections
Where: Nordstrom, Mall of America
When: Thursday, June 24, 2010
Why: We love fashion, we love Nordstrom, we love to mingle, and we’re all about supporting good causes. Sound off—it’s party time.

Last Thursday, I was in my own personal version of nirvana. I wouldn’t consider myself a die-hard fashionista. Yes, I swoon at the site of Chanel, and I have an admitted addiction to shoes, and maybe handbags, okay, and probably cocktail dresses, and I suppose I covet a few too many pairs of Sevens . . . but, really, I don’t have a problem—no matter what my friends and family might say.

Voltage: Fashion Amplified

Who: Rock ‘n’ roll groupies and fashion-crazed hipsters
What: Voltage: Fashion Amplified
Where: First Ave.
When: Friday, April 16, 2010
Why: Where else would we wear that edgy new leather jacket and those spiky gladiator heels?

My Friday night was plagued with one question: What do you wear to a fashion event filled with trendy hipsters and local designers who are all the rage? Admittedly, my fashion sense is a little more BCBG than whacked-out D&G, but I wanted to fit in amongst the fashionistas at Voltage: Fashion Amplified. After settling on a one shoulder LaROK frock, my black leather motorcycle jacket, and a pair of never-before worn gladiator sandals, I hit the road ready to mingle with the style-obsessed. After a delicious dinner at Vincent with my plus one (the truffle mashed potatoes made the trip to downtown worth it), we headed to the star-covered walls of First Ave. for the event, which merges local fashion designers with local up-and-coming bands.
