The sun was high and hot on a July Sunday when I walked through the gates of the Twin City Polo Club. Surrounded by pristine white tents accented with linen tablecloths, champagne, and rows of wooden chairs, I had arrived at the 22nd Annual Twin City Polo Classic -- one of Minnesota’s longest running charity events. I had to shield my eyes to get a full view of the massive Polo field, an impressive 300 yards long and 200 yards wide.

What: The Minnesota Vikings Taste of the NFL event
Where: Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America
When: Monday, October 4
Why: Who wouldn’t want to munch on a delicious dinner, served by a studly Viking, all in support of a good cause?

I am a Green Bay Packers fan. I always have, and I always will be. I never thought the Minnesota Vikings could impress me—but I was wrong. On Monday night I headed to the Vikings Taste of the NFL event at the Mall of America. The event, which partnered with Second Harvest Heartland, benefited the efforts of the Viking’s Children’s Fun Summer Lunch Program, which provides meals to children in need. I entered the event ready to mix and mingle with my enemies, and I left with a newfound appreciation for some major do-gooders in the community.

What: The University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Fund’s Annual Wine Dinner
When: Monday, September 20

Where: Calhoun Beach Club
Why: We love sports, so we wanted to rub shoulders with big-time supporters of student athletes

It’s hard not to love the Gophers. Everything about each maroon and gold team screams quintessential colleges sports. Students rally around the players, while Goldy leads cheers and chants that encourage each squad toward victory. Ask any Gopher athlete, and they’ll likely say the best thing about playing for the U of M is the fans. The steadfast support that Minnesotans shower over student athletes is infinite. And this Monday evening was no exception.

OK, one question for the Caring for Kids committee…where was Esera? Last year Esera crooned his way through tunes from his debut CD (who says there isn’t life after football?) during the cocktail hour. This year Mr. Tuaolo was absent, but many of the other football greats I had the pleasure of meeting last year were back for more.

Where: TCF Bank Stadium
When: September 25-26

It was love at first site for the guests of Taste, who not only got to roam the new TCF Bank Stadium, a luxury many Minnesotans may not have for years to come, but were privy to VIP club rooms, suites, and even tour of the Goph's locker room. It was all part of Mpls.St.Paul's two-day Taste event. Aside from bites from 30 top TC restaurants--Asian chicken salad from 20.21, sushi from Seven, and super delish meatloaf sliders with cornbread from Cowboy Slims--there were tours of the stadium that took you right down to the field, music from Tim Mahoney, demonstrations from top-notch foodies like 112 Eatery's Isaac Becker and our own Beth Dooley, and special appearances from U of M coaches. And then, of course, there was the wine! Whether they came for Friday night's gala benefit or Saturday, which was packed with demonstrations, seminars, and celeb guests, everyone had a fantastic time!

Hawaii is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It just feels good being there, surrounded by flowers, the ocean, the mountains, and it's impossible not to soak up the positive, low key vibe that permeates the salty, sultry air. On Sunday, a little glimmer of Hawaii sprinkled downtown Minneapolis at the laid back luau at Seven's Skybar hosted big kahuna Esera Tuaulo, the former NFL player and now aspiring singer.
