Who: Friends and Fans of Titian
What: Bella Naughty
When: February 5, 2011
Where: Minneapolis Institute of Arts
Why: An excuse to clink-clink in honor of Italian Renaissance masterpieces
The Minneapolis Institute of Arts invited us to break out of post-holiday hiding and hibernation with Bella Naughty, a Venetian-style masquerade party celebrating the kick off of the
not-to-be missed exhibit Titian and the Golden Age of Venetian Painting: Masterpieces from the National Galleries of Scotland.
More than 1,100 masked partygoers flooded the museum for drinks, dancing, and a peek at the world-renown paintings, which are only here through May 1. The MIA is always a stunning setting for a party, and the signature theatrical lighting, costumed actors, and dancers-on-platforms are now appreciated and expected. After a spin through the Titian exhibit, we elbowed our way to VIP, where the Pillsbury Auditorium was converted to a discotheque.
All those Renaissance nudes inspired us to plan a return for a docent-led tour, where one of the museums extremely knowledgeable guides will school us on the stories, techniques, and context behind the art and artists. Can’t wait!
What a great event! Congratulations MIA! Thanks MSP and Mike Feltault!!!
