Who:  Santa Bash founder Matt Gulseth and his friends
What: Santa Bash
Where: The Depot, Minneapolis
When: Friday, December 4, 2009
Why:  A benefit for the Basilica of Saint Mary that celebrates the holidays

Although Santa Claus was nowhere in sight, about 500 people got in the holiday spirit at Santa Bash, a benefit for the Basilica of Saint Mary at The Depot. We did spot a fair ice princess and a slightly grumpy snow king who didn’t want his picture taken, however.

Shrug your shoulders right now if you’re wondering, “What’s Santa Bash”?

“It’s a nongala,” says Santa Bash founder Matt Gulseth, an attorney and financial planner.  “I always wanted a charity event that didn’t require a huge outlay.” At just $25 a person, this charity event is more affordable than most, and it’s now in its 18th year.

The Beatles cover band Hard Days Night echoed throughout the ballroom, there was an ugly sweater contest, and, I’m thinking Santa’s little elves had the single ladies in mind, because there seemed to be lots of 35-plus-year-old bachelors at this party.  Ho, ho, ho!
