Who: The fashionphiles of Minneapolis and St. Paul
What: A fashion show with live music performances, plus an after-bash
When: Friday, Aug. 14, 2009
Where: Orpheum Theatre and then up to Macy's rooftop
Why: To kick off the fall fashion season and raise funds for Children's Cancer Research Fund
Nineteen hundred fashionistas flocked to Macy's annual Glamorama this year themed as Come Together Music + Fashion. Ne-Yo delivered the dance moves, Kristinia DeBarge the pop grooves, the guys from The New Standards did their loungey spin on Britney Spear's "Toxic," and Miss Piggy made us laugh by acknowledging Marc Jacobs' handy work--her custom-made outfit.
"Thank you Marc, it's exquisite! Then again, how could you possibly go wrong with moi as your muse, hmmm?" the diva puppet declared.
The hour-long fashion show flipped through looks from cool Alberta Ferretti, punked-out Jean Paul Gaultier, rockin' Just Cavalli, and the extremely memorable Papi, where wet male models danced to "It's Raining Men" in nothing but their bathing suits. Hallelujah, amen!
Like every year after the show, the mob of beautiful people walk together, down one block and around the corner to the party on Macy's rooftop for dancing, drinking, noshing, and flirting. Sure the VIPs took refuge on the second tier of the roof, but the models hung out and danced with the rest of us, so there was plenty of eye candy for all to enjoy.
The best part of the night: around $225,000 was raised for Children's Cancer Research Fund.
